Learning the power of strategy

Brad Halcrow   December 12, 2018

It was in 2016 when we last visited Dan Ogden, director of D&B Electrical. He’d just moved from the garage at home to his first office space to manage a growing list of small domestic projects.

With simPRO in place, Dan was readying the business to begin going after bigger projects.

2 years on, we’ve dropped in to see Dan again. He’s now moved into an even bigger office and is handling those much larger projects, with continued growth in his sights for 2019.

What part does simPRO play in parts management?

Brad Halcrow   December 5, 2018

For most trade businesses there’s normally one recurring issue, an issue that can no longer be ignored, that prompts the leap from paper & spreadsheets to business management software. It’s usually either financial, operational or procedural.

For King & Martin, the issue of missing parts needed to be addressed as a matter of urgency. Losing parts meant losing money, however once they saw that simPRO could assign parts directly to a job and that price files from suppliers would be accurate and up to date - the clouds began to part.

The apprentice who bought the business

Brien Electrical are based near Wellington in Paraparaumu. It’s a beautiful part of the world where Mark & Monique Brosnahan have been building their business for over 30 years.

Right from the outset, Mark was determined to be his own boss. In fact his sole aim, as an electrician, was to open his own electrical business and build it to be the best.

Mark hadn’t even completed his apprenticeship when he and Monique bought their electrical business - which was initially comprised of only 3 staff members. Today, Brien Electrical employs a total of 33 people - a fantastic example of this business’ evolution over the last 30 years.

Chris Peebles Electrical specialises in the servicing and installation of commercial food equipment. With simPRO now in place, owner Andrew Stefferts’ scheduling woes are a thing of the past. As a result, the business has gained a 25% increase in output and Andrew couldn’t be happier.

The freedom to create multiple streams of income

Brad Halcrow   May 17, 2018

We previously met John not long after he’d implemented simPRO. His focus back then was to build a strong team culture to keep the momentum of his electrical business running at a steady pace.

Well...job done!

Strong team culture bolsters large electrical contracting business

Brad Halcrow   February 19, 2018

ADJ believe in committing to staff for the long term to provide a stable working relationship. To bolster that stability Raynor ensures company growth remains steady rather than riding the peaks and troughs that often come with this type of commercial work. It means that when a new staff member is brought on board, it’s a committed relationship for both parties.

How to tightly control costs while managing this many contractors

Brad Halcrow   December 12, 2017

With 20 staff and no less than 250 contractors performing various construction jobs in the field, Edge Industries uses simPRO to effectively manage costs and keep their huge workforce on track.

From man-in-a-van to $20mil projects, and calmer than ever

Brad Halcrow   November 10, 2017

Like many, Steve Campbell began his career as a trade business owner as a man-and-a-van. Getting work was never an issue, keeping his system fluent and organised was.

Supporting the country’s largest network of trade businesses

Scott Carr has been with the Laser Group since the very beginning. Originally the Laser Group had built their own software. Over time, developing, maintaining and supporting the software was taking away the focus from what they do best - supporting their members.

Nowadays, the Laser Group is a 240-strong network of plumbers and electricians across New Zealand and Australia, running on a reliable, robust system that’s growing with them.
